Review of the P90X
If you have any interest in working out with a home video, than undoubtedly you have heard of the P90X. It is the gold standard of fitness videos and the one in which everything else is compared. So, lets get started.
General Description
First and foremost, this is not a workout for beginners. It is hard, it is strenuous, and it is exhausting. If you are not in reasonably good shape, this is not the video program for you. That being said, it is an excellent workout that most anyone can aspire to do if they start with something else first. It is a 90 day program that alternates among 12 workout DVDs that last approximately one hour each. Generally, you will blitzkrieg a different muscle group each day. This is a workout that appeals mostly to men as its main focus is building muscle and upper body strength. (Don't think for one minute that you will not develop cardio at the same time. Tony Horton does not believe in rest periods). That being said, the fact that half of the workout team on the videos are female, shows that it can be beneficial for women also.

Pros
This is a serious workout. It builds muscle better and faster than any health club dreamed. Complete this workout and you wont ever go to the gym again. You will realize what a waste of time a bench press, squat rack, and other machines are. P90X delivers what it claims and if you want to have that "beach body" this is the program to do it. Period.
Cons
It is not for beginners like some advertising leads you to believe. If you haven't done anything in recent years and are no longer 25, than start with something else before trying this program. Many of the exercises are complicated if not outright dangerous and could cause series injury if you are not ready for them. (One arm push-ups, air-born push-ups, one arm pull ups, and a litany of others). P90X generally does not like to repeat an exercise twice and I assume that is why they then have to come up with oddball exercises to fill in the gap. Lastly, it is expensive. Not only does it cost over $100, you pretty much have to buy an entire home gym. You will need a complete set of dumbbells, a mat, and a pull up bar.
