REMEMBER: This is a marathon, not a sprint. Just make sure you continue to progress with healthy eating from month to month. Once a change is no longer a challenge, than pursue another one. At the end of a year, you will weigh less, be healthier, and feel better than before and you don’t have to starve yourself in the process.

- Don’t go on a diet. The problem with diets are that they are all temporary. Once you stop, you will simply regain the weight. You need something more permanent.
- Don’t set weight loss goals and stay off the scale. A scale lies. Your body can fluctuate 2 pounds a day. If you are only averaging say 2-3 pounds of weight loss a month, the scale will be very misleading.
- You want to make new eating habits that last for life. With each new habit, your body will slowly adjust its weight accordingly. Once something becomes a habit, it is no longer hard to keep, it is just your new preference. Then you go on to improving something else.
- Step 1: Quit drinking sweetened drinks.
- Drink water, unsweet tea, unsweet coffee, and juice in moderation.
- Absolutely no sodas.
- No diet drinks
- No artificial sweeteners.
- Stevia can be used for tea and a little honey for coffee.
- Splashing a little juice in your water will add flavor.
- Splenda can be used in a pinch if you are out.
- Step 2: Get your carbs right.
- Replace White Bread with 100% whole wheat bread
- This includes pasta and cakes or anything else with flour.
- Replace White Rice with brown rice
- Replace White potatoes with sweet potatoes.
- LIMIT SUGAR INTAKE

- Replace all oils with olive oil.
- No more bag popcorn. Make your own with olive oil.
- No Trans Fats (margarine or hydrogenated foods)
- Eat out no more than 2 times weekly.
- Learn to eat at home.
- Get in the habit of preparing your own meals.
- Worry about cooking health food after this habit is learned.
- Limit sweets to 2 helpings per week.
- Replace candy with fruit.
- Learn to eat fruit and vegetables with each meal.
